Well, here are few things I have found on your champion… Obama will probably end up winning the election and the US will suffer from this. I’m not really a supporter of McCain, but we will be worse off in a country totally controlled by the Democrat party. I will agree that a lot of mistakes were made by the Bush administration. Just wait and see what the most liberal member of the Senate will do.

The following was gathered from the RNC website.

    THE ACORN/OBAMA RECORD

Obama Campaign Tries To Downplay “Supposed” Connections Between Their Candidate And ACORN:

“Barack Obama Never Organized With ACORN” (Barack Obama For President Website, http://fightthesmears.com/articles/20/acornrumor, Accessed 10/4/08)

“[L]ies About His Supposed Connection To ACORN.” (Barack Obama For President Website, http://fightthesmears.com/articles/20/acornrumor, Accessed 10/4/08)

Obama Formerly Represented ACORN, Taught Classes For Future Leaders Of ACORN, And They Endorsed His 2008 Presidential Campaign:

Obama Directed Project Vote And Later Taught Classes For “Future Leaders Identified By ACORN And The Centers For New Horizons.” “He [Obama] says he is drawn to politics, despite its superficialities, as a means to advance his real passion and calling: community organization. … In 1992 Obama took time off to direct Project Vote, the most successful grass-roots voter-registration campaign in recent city history. Credited with helping elect Carol Moseley-Braun to the U.S. Senate, the registration drive, aimed primarily at African-Americans, added an estimated 125,000 voters to the voter rolls–even more than were registered during Harold Washington’s mayoral campaigns. ‘It’s a power thing,’ said the brochures and radio commercials. … Obama continues his organizing work largely through classes for future leaders identified by ACORN and the Centers for New Horizons on the south side.” (Hank De Zutter, Op-Ed, “What Makes Obama Run?” Chicago Reader, 12/8/95)

Obama Was Part Of Team Of Lawyers Who Represented ACORN In A Suit Against The State Of Illinois. “Obama was part of a team of attorneys who represented the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois in 1995 for failing to implement a federal law designed to make it easier for the poor and others to register as voters.” (Mike Robinson, “Obama Got Start In Civil Rights Practice,” The Associated Press, 2/20/07)

ACORN’s Political Action Committee Endorsed Obama. “[A]CORN’s political action committee endorsed Barack Obama for President. … The endorsement reflects a belief that Obama – who worked as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago – understands that change must come from the ground-up, as part of a working coalition, rather than from position papers.” (Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Op-Ed, “ACORN: Obama Gets It,” The Nation, 2/23/08)

Obama’s Campaign Paid Over $800,000 To ACORN For Get-Out-The-Vote Efforts, But “Mistakenly Misrepresented” Their Work To The FEC:

Obama’s Campaign “Paid More Than $800,000” To ACORN For Get-Out-The Vote Efforts; The Campaign Originally “Misrepresented” The Group’s Work To The FEC. “U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign paid more than $800,000 to an offshoot of the liberal Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now for services the Democrat’s campaign says it mistakenly misrepresented in federal reports. An Obama spokesman said Federal Election Commission reports would be amended to show Citizens Services Inc. — a subsidiary of ACORN — worked in ‘get-out-the-vote’ projects, instead of activities such as polling, advance work and staging major events as stated in FEC finance reports filed during the primary.” (David M. Brown, “Obama To Amend Report On $800,000 In Spending,” Pittsburgh Tribune Review, 8/22/08)

While Serving On The Board Of Directors Of The Woods Fund, ACORN Received Thousands Of Dollars Of Grants From The Organization:

    The Chicago ACORN Received Grants Of $45,000 (2000), $30,000 (2001), $45,000 (2001), $30,000 (2002), And $40,000 (2002) From The Woods Fund. (Donors Forum Website, ifs.donorsforum.org, Accessed 6/10/08)

NOTE: From 1993 To 2002, Barack Obama Served On The Board Of Directors For The Woods Fund. (Tim Novak and Fran Spielman, “Obama Helped Ex-Boss Get $1 Mil. From Charity,” Chicago Sun-Times, 11/29/07)
WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE?

James Terry, The Chief Public Advocate Of The Consumers Rights League, Testified About ACORN’s Pattern Of Fraud Before The Joint Oversight Committee:

The Chief Public Advocate Of The Consumers Rights League, James Terry, Testified Today In Congress About How “ACORN’s Pattern Of Fraud Can No Longer Be Dismissed As A Series Of Unfortunate Events.” “James Terry, Chief Public Advocate for the Consumers Rights League, today testified at a joint House Administration and House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing on ‘Federal, State and Local Efforts to Prepare for the General 2008 Election,’ where he highlighted ‘corruption at every level of ACORN including embezzlement, cover-ups, misuse of taxpayer funds and voter fraud.’ An excerpt of his testimony follows: James Terry, Chief Public Advocate, Consumers Rights League: ‘ACORN routinely says it will clean up its act. Yet, given its decade-long history of voter fraud, embezzlement, and misuses of taxpayer funds, ACORN’s pattern of fraud can no longer be dismissed as a series of ‘unfortunate events.’” (“CRL Testimony On ACORN’s Voter Fraud,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/25/08)

Terry Stated “It Is Fair To Question How Many Fraudulent Registrations” Submitted By ACORN May “Lead To Fraudulent Votes,” And Also Pointed Out That ACORN May Be “Willing To Undertake” Other Actions “To Influence The Election.” James Terry: “Furthermore, as this mega organization with a decades long history of violating the law is turned to get out the vote efforts, we believe it is fair to question how many fraudulent registrations may lead to fraudulent votes or what other activities they are willing to undertake to influence the election.” (“CRL Testimony On ACORN’s Voter Fraud,” The Wall Street Journal, 9/25/08)
Some Of The Highlights Of ACORN Suspicious Activity In 2008:

Many Voter Applications, Submitted By ACORN, Appear To Be Fraudulent And Are Being Withheld By Seminole County’s Elections Supervisor Until They Are Proven Legitimate. “Local elections officials are looking into potential election fraud and some of the information is pointing to a Democratic-leaning voter’s group. ACORN … has been registering thousands of new voters for this year’s election, but in Seminole County, some voter applications are being withheld until it’s proven they’re legitimate. … Seminole County’s elections supervisor is holding up dozens of voter registration applications because they appear to be fraudulent: wrong addresses, bad signatures and more. … Many of the applications with suspect information were turned-in by the activist group ACORN.” (“Elections Officials Look Into Voter Fraud,” WESH Orlando, 9/23/08)

“ACORN Admits That They Had A Case Of Voter Fraud Happen This Week In Seminole County,” Florida. “ACORN admits that they had a case of voter fraud happen this week in Seminole County, but say they have since fired that employee and the faulty registration has been thrown out.” (Susie Hassan, “ACORN Blamed For Florida Voter Fraud,” WZVN-HD ABC News, 9/25/08)

In Clark County, Nevada, ACORN Allegedly Submits 2,000 To 3,000 Fraudulent Applications Each Week. “ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, claims to have collected 60,000 new voter registrations in Clark County since February. The group, which works to promote the interests of lower-income people, is aiming for 100,000 by Labor Day. … The group has drawn accusations of voter fraud and criminal investigations in several states. Last year, authorities in Washington state brought felony charges against ACORN workers for filing false voter registrations. Some ACORN workers pleaded guilty and went to jail, while the organization paid $25,000 and agreed to have its registration efforts monitored in a settlement with Washington state authorities. [Clark County Registrar of Voters Larry] Lomax said while he supports the goal of getting more people registered to vote, he sees rampant fraud in the 2,000 to 3,000 registrations ACORN turns in every week.” (Molly Ball, “New Voter Sign-Ups Up,” Las Vegas Review-Journal, 7/7/08)

Nevada State Officials Are Teaming With Federal Authorities To Investigate Voter Fraud, Particularly Applications Submitted By ACORN. “Nevada state and federal authorities on Thursday announced the formation of a task force that will aggressively pursue allegations of election fraud. The secretary of state, attorney general, U.S. attorney’s office and Federal Bureau of Investigation plan to work together as the election approaches and on Election Day to ensure a free and fair election in Nevada, where record turnout is anticipated. ‘This is part of an effort to work proactively,’ Secretary of State Ross Miller, the state’s chief elections official, said of the combined effort, which he said would ‘ensure there is integrity in the system.’ Miller said investigators are already looking into allegations of fraud in voter registration, though he declined to go into specifics of an investigation he suggested was being handled by the FBI. Clark County officials have said they suspect fraud is occurring in the thousands of voter registrations being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which works to get low-income people to vote. ACORN, whose officials have faced fraud charges in other states, says the group’s workers are trained to follow the law.” (Molly Ball, “Election Fraud Task Force Formed,” Las Vegas Review-Journal, 8/1/08)

In New Mexico, Doña Ana County Officials “Received Complaints About Misleading Voter Registration Activities.” “The Doña Ana County Bureau of Elections has received complaints about misleading voter-registration activities and wants to make sure the public knows the truth about registering. Elections Supervisor Lynn Ellins said in a news release from the county that the ‘most disturbing’ complaint is from people who say they are being told they must re-register to vote under a new law passed by the state Legislature. ‘This is simply not true,’ Ellins said. ‘Any voter who is registered and in good standing has no obligation to re-register.’” (Heath Haussamen, “Complaints In Doña Ana County,” The New Mexico Independent, 6/11/08)

Doña Ana County Spokesman Jess Williams Said That ACORN Is Responsible For Many Of The Complaints About The Voter Re-Registration Scheme. “County spokesman Jess Williams said many of the complaints are about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform, more commonly known as ACORN. The group has been actively trying to register voters in Doña Ana County in recent months. It has also received national attention in recent years for allegations in other states of voter fraud and shoddy work…” (Heath Haussamen, “Complaints In Doña Ana County,” The New Mexico Independent, 6/11/08)

In New Mexico, 1,100 Fraudulent Voter-Registration Cards Were Reported And ACORN Acknowledges That Some May Have Come From Its Group. “Such is the situation for Bernalillo County, which reported, the day before Obama’s Española rally, that it had received 1,100 fraudulent voter-registration cards. While there is no information, yet, on where those cards came from, Matthew Henderson, ACORN’s New Mexico head organizer, acknowledges some could have come from his group. ACORN, he says, has registered 75,000 New Mexicans during this election cycle.” (Mark Sanders, “Attempts To Rock The Vote, Rock The Boat,” Santa Fe Reporter, 9/24/08)

Ninety Voter Registration Forms That Included Social Security Numbers And Dates Of Birth Were Stolen From ACORN’s Las Cruces Office. “Ninety completed voter-registration applications that included Social Security numbers and dates of birth were stolen over the weekend from the Las Cruces office of an independent voter-registration group. As a result, ACORN plans to send letters to those whose applications were stolen to inform them of the situation.” (Heath Haussamen, “Completed Voter-Registration Forms Stolen From Group,” “Heath Haussamen On New Mexico Politics” Blog, haussamen.blogspot.com, 6/24/08)

In North Carolina, Durham County’s Elections Director, Mike Ashe, Has Asked That Approximately 80 Voter Registration Forms Submitted by ACORN Be Investigated For Suspicions Of Fraud. “A Durham official is asking state elections administrators to check approximately 80 voter registration forms for possible fraud. … Mike Ashe, Durham County’s elections director, said the forms were among about 4,000 submitted to his office over the past four to six weeks by a national left-wing group called Acorn … Ashe’s staff also learned this week of irregularities with a handful of other registrations. It was not clear who was responsible for these problems. … ‘This is serious, obviously,’ Ashe said.” (Matthew E. Milliken, “Elections Chief Asks For Voter Fraud Probe,” The Herald [NC] Sun, 9/19/08)

In Cuyahoga County, OH, ACORN Is Under Investigation By Election Officials Due To “Many Suspicious” Voter Registration Cards. “A national organization that conducts voter registration drives for low-income people has curtailed its push in Cuyahoga County after the Board of Elections accused its workers of submitting fraudulent registration cards. The board is investigating the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. Results of the inquiry could be turned over to the county prosecutor. Board employees said ACORN workers often handed in the same name on a number of voter registration cards, but showing that person living at different addresses. Other times, cards had the same name listed, but a different date of birth. Still another sign of possible fraud showed a number of people living at an address that turned out to be a restaurant. … Board employees are unsure how many of the cards are fraudulent. But the voter registration department received so many suspicious cards that it began compiling a binder with evidence. The binder grew to be an inch-thick.” (Joe Guillen, “Cuyahoga Board Probes ACORN Voter Registration Drive,” The [Cleveland, OH] Plain Dealer, 8/27/08)

‘“I’m Obviously Very Concerned,’ Board Chairman Jeff Hastings Said. ‘This Goes To The Essence Of Our Democracy.’” (Joe Guillen, “Cuyahoga Board Probes ACORN Voter Registration Drive,” The [Cleveland, OH] Plain Dealer, 8/27/08)
In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Election Officials Accused ACORN “Of Filing Fraudulent Voter Registrations” But The Group Blames The Post Office. “Philadelphia elections officials are accusing the nonprofit advocacy group ‘Acorn’ of filing fraudulent voter registrations in advance of the April 22nd Pennsylvania primary. Acorn, which advocates on behalf of low-income residents in the city, has mounted a voter registration drive in the past few months. But city election commissioners are complaining that many of the submitted registrations appear to be faulty, and they have forwarded the matter to the district attorney’s office for further investigation. … The city officials say many of the addresses listed on the registrations are invalid, but Acorn blames the post office for not adequately servicing low-income communities.” (Mike Dunn, “Phila. Probing Advocacy Group’s Voter Registrations,” KYW Newsradio, http://www.kyw1060.com, 3/12/08)

One Pennsylvania ACORN Worker Is Facing “19 Counts Of Perjury, Making False Statements, Forgery And Identity Theft” Related To Voter Registration Forms. “A former temporary worker for a national community action group recently questioned by Dauphin County investigators about bogus voter registration forms is now a wanted man. Luis R. Torres-Serrano, 37, of the 200 block of South 15th Street, is accused by authorities of submitting more than 100 fraudulent voter registration forms he collected on behalf of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now to county election officials. … Torres-Serrano is charged with 19 counts of perjury, making false statements, forgery and identity theft in connection with the voter registration forms, authorities said.” (Reggie Sheffield, “Former Temp Worker Accused Of Bogus Voter Registrations,” [Harrisburg, PA] Patriot News, 7/24/08)

Milwaukee Election Officials Launched An Investigation Against ACORN For “Making People Up Or Registering People That Were Still In Prison.” “Criminal investigations could be launched against at least six voter registration workers who tried to add dead, imprisoned or imaginary people to the voter rolls, according to the Milwaukee Election Commission and the organization that employed them. Officials are reviewing some 200 to 300 fraudulent voter registration cards, Sue Edman, the commission’s executive director, said Wednesday. … In about 12 cases, deputy registrars paid by ACORN were ‘making people up or registering people that were still in prison,’ said Carolyn Castore, ACORN’s state political director. And in other cases, workers used the same address for numerous voters or used driver’s license numbers that did not fit the voters’ birth dates, Edman said. But most of the fraud involved submitting duplicate cards for voters who were already registered, and forging the voters’ signatures, Castore said.” (Larry Sandler, “Fake Names Get Voter Registration Workers Investigated,” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 8/7/08)

All Voter Fraud Instances Under Investigation By Milwaukee Officials Are Linked To “Two Liberal Groups” - ACORN And The Community Voters Project. “Milwaukee’s election chief on Wednesday turned 32 more voter registration workers in to the district attorney’s office for possible prosecution, saying they tried to submit falsified registration cards. That brings to 39 the number of registration workers under scrutiny, and the number could grow, Election Commission Executive Director Sue Edman said. An organization warned the commission staff late Wednesday afternoon about some questionable cards in the latest batch collected by its workers, Edman said. All of the workers targeted for investigation were paid employees of two liberal groups running voter registration drives, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) and the Community Voters Project.” (Larry Sandler, “More Voter Registration Workers Under Scrutiny,” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 8/21/08)

    Some of his friends…

Yesterday, The FBI Began Investigating Obama’s Poker Buddy Larry Walsh:

Walsh And Obama Formed A Tight Friendship While Serving Together In The State Senate. “Obama formed tight friendships with three white Senate colleagues whose backgrounds and personalities couldn’t have been more different from his. There was the blunt-talking Denny Jacobs from the Quad Cities, and Larry Walsh from Elwood, whose ‘aw-shucks’ demeanor belied deft political skills.” (Rick Pearson and Ray Long, “Careful Steps, Looking Ahead,” Chicago Tribune, 5/3/07)

The FBI Is Investigating Walsh, According To The Chicago Sun-Times. “Two FBI agents spent more than an hour in the Will County Office Building on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into an elected official. That person seems to be Will County Executive Larry Walsh.” (Stewart Warren, “FBI Probes Will County,” Chicago Sun-Times, 10/2/08)

The Investigation Into Walsh Is Associated With His Ties To The Lobbying Firm Smith Dawson And Andrews To Help The County Get More Federal Funding. “The official apparently is Walsh. Ryan has — or had — some relationship with Smith Dawson and Andrews, the lobbying firm hired in 2006 at a rate of $10,000 a month to help Will County snare more federal grants and funding.” (Stewart Warren, “FBI Probes Will County,” Chicago Sun-Times, 10/2/08)

Walsh’s Campaign Received $2,000 From The President Of The Lobbying Firm. “But Walsh’s campaign has. In June, James P. Smith, president of Smith Dawson and Andrews, donated $2,000 to the Committee to Elect Lawrence Walsh.” (Stewart Warren, “FBI Probes Will County,” Chicago Sun-Times, 10/2/08)
Obama’s Friend And Fundraiser Tony Rezko Was Convicted Of Wire Fraud, Money Laundering, And Aiding And Abetting Bribery:

Rezko Was “One Of The Biggest Fundraisers” For Obama. “‘This was discussed a lot. They wanted to have a good showing,’ said a source familiar with the fund-raiser [Rezko held for Obama], speaking on condition of anonymity. ‘Tony was one of the biggest fund-raisers.’” (Chris Fusco and Tim Novak, “Rezko Cash Triple What Obama Says,” Chicago Sun-Times, 6/18/07)

Obama Engaged In A “Boneheaded” Land Deal With Rezko Where Obama Paid $300,000 Less Than The Asking Price For His Mansion, While Tony Rezko’s Wife Paid Full Price For A Vacant Lot Next Door On The Very Same Day. “[O]bama bought a mansion on the South Side, in the Kenwood neighborhood, from a doctor. On the same day, Rezko’s wife, Rita Rezko, bought the vacant lot next door from the same seller. The doctor had listed the properties for sale together. He sold the house to Obama for $300,000 below the asking price. The doctor got his asking price on the lot from Rezko’s wife.” (Tim Novak, “Obama And His Rezko Ties,” Chicago Sun-Times, 4/23/07)

Rezko Was Convicted Of Wire And Mail Fraud, Money Laundering, And Aiding And Abetting Bribery. “A federal jury today convicted developer Antoin ‘Tony’ Rezko of corruption charges for trading on his clout as a top adviser and fundraiser to Gov. Rod Blagojevich. … The jury convicted Rezko of wire and mail fraud, money laundering and aiding and abetting bribery. He was acquitted of attempted extortion.” (Bob Secter and Jeff Coen, “Rezko Convicted Of Corruption,” Chicago Tribune, 6/4/08)

Obama Supporter Kwame Kilpatrick Pled Guilty To Two Felonies Forcing Him To Step Down As Mayor:

Kilpatrick Was An Obama Superdelegate. “Five Michigan democratic superdelegates endorsed Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign on Tuesday, including Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick and her son, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick…” (Gordon Trowbridge, “Five More Michigan Superdelegates Endorse Obama,” The Detroit News, 6/4/08)

“In March, The Wayne County Prosecutor Charged Mr. Kilpatrick With Eight Felonies…” (Nick Bunkley, “Judge Orders Detroit Mayor Jailed,” The New York Times, 8/7/08)

After Pleading Guilty To Two Felonies, Kilpatrick Stepped Down From His Position As Mayor Of Detroit. “After an extraordinary day that saw him plead guilty to two felonies, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick spoke for the first time publicly this evening. Telling Detroiters ‘I’ve always said that you need to stand strong for the City of Detroit…but sometimes standing strong means stepping down,’ Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick delivered a televised speech that was part-apology, part campaign speech.” (M.L. Elrick, Jim Schaefer, Joe Swickard and Ben Schmitt, “Kilpatrick To City: ‘There’s Another Day For Me,’” Detroit Free Press, 9 /4/08)

Kilpatrick Was Jailed For Violating His Bond Agreement. “Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, charged with perjury and other felonies for his testimony in a civil trial, was ordered to jail Thursday because he violated his bond by taking a quick trip to Canada without notifying authorities.” (Corey Williams and Ed White, “Detroit Mayor Ordered Jailed After Bond Violation,” The Associated Press, 8/7/08)

Obama Associate William Ayers Avoided Legal Trouble Only Due To A Technicality:

Obama And Ayers Coordinated On The Chicago Annenberg Challenge. “With Ayers directing the project’s operational arm and Obama overseeing its financial affairs until 1999, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge distributed more than $100 million to ideological allies with no discernible improvement in public education.” (Editorial, “Obama’s Friend, America’s Enemy,” National Review, 8/27/08)

“William Ayers … [Was] A Founding Member Of The Group That Bombed The U.S. Capitol And The Pentagon During The 1970s.” (Russell Berman, “Obama’s Ties To Left Come Under Scrutiny,” The New York Sun, 2/19/08)

Ayers Surrendered To Authorities In November Of 1980 But Did Not Receive Any Punishment. “In November 1980, [Ayers and Dohrn] turned themselves in. … Dohrn wound up with a $1,500 fine and three years’ probation; Ayers, with nothing.” (Jon Anderson, “Weathering Change ’60s Revolutionary Bill Ayers Says He Has Always Been A Teacher, But He No Longer Uses Bombs As Study Aids,” Chicago Tribune, 7/8/93)

Federal Charges Against Ayers Were Dropped Because Evidence Was Obtained Through An Illegal Wiretap. “Mr. Ayers was also indicted on Federal charges in connection with the disorders, but the Federal charges against Miss Dohrn, Mr. Ayers and other Weathermen were dropped in 1979 when a court ruled that the Government’s evidence had been obtained through illegal telephone wiretaps.” (Nathaniel Sheppard Jr., “Bernadine Dohrn Gives Up To Authorities In Chicago,” The New York Times, 12/4/80)

Obama Has Reportedly Toasted Nadhmi Auchi Who Was Convicted Of Fraud:

According To Rezko Trial Testimony, Obama Attended A Reception For Nadhmi Auchi At The Home Of Tony Rezko April 3, 2004. “When Iraqi-born billionaire Nadhmi Auchi attended an April 3, 2004 reception for himself at Tony Rezko’s home White House hopeful Barack Obama, and his wife, attended the reception, Stuart Levine testified just now in the trial.” (Natasha Korecki, “Obama Bomb Droped,” Chicago Sun-Times’ “Eye On Rezko” Blog, http://blogs.suntimes.com/rezko/, 4/14/08)

A Source Told The Chicago Sun-Times That “Obama Not Only Gave Rezko’s Guest Of Honor, Iraqi Billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, A Big Welcome . . . But He Made A Few Toasts!” “Dem presidential contender Barack Obama’s handlers may be telling the press Obama has NO ‘recollection’ of a 2004 party at influence peddler Tony Rezko’s Wilmette house, but a top Sneed source claims Obama not only gave Rezko’s guest of honor, Iraqi billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, a big welcome . . . but he made a few toasts!” (Michael Sneed, “Which Is It? Obamarama…” Chicago Sun-Times, 4/16/08)
“Auchi — Who Lives In London — Had Been Convicted Of Fraud In France In 2003. After Visiting Chicago And Detroit In 2004, He Wasn’t Allowed Back Into This Country In 2005, According To A Prosecution Filing In The Rezko Case.” (Natasha Korecki, Chris Fusco and Tim Novak, “Obama’s Name In Rezko Trial,” Chicago Sun-Times, 4/15/08)

With exactly one month to go until Election Day, will the comeback kid strike again?

John McCain seems to be facing an uphill road to the White House, consistently trailing in national polls and slipping behind in practically every major battleground.

The recent focus on the economy may have contributed to Barack Obama’s boost — but the McCain campaign is fighting back hard, launching a character assault that on Saturday tapped McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, who accused Obama of “palling around with terrorists” because of his ties to ’60s radical William Ayers.

Obama, for his part, launched a new line of attack Saturday on McCain’s health care plan while continuing to paint McCain as the wrong person for the job of shoring up the struggling economy.

But this is the McCain who resurrected his campaign from near-collapse to take the Republican nomination. To turn the tables again, his advisers signaled they will spend the final weeks of the campaign on offense, bringing up Obama’s personal relationships — the kind that have provided fodder to conservative talk radio and caused trouble for Obama during the Democratic primaries

Palin fired the first salvo of this new phase of the campaign Saturday at a fundraiser in Colorado, criticizing Obama for his ties to Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground.

“Our opponent, though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect — imperfect enough that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country,” she said, referencing a front-page story in The New York Times on Saturday that examined the Obama-Ayers connection. “Americans need to know this. … I think, okay we gotta get the word out. This is in fairness to the electorate we gotta start telling people what the other side represents.”

The campaign also referenced Obama’s ties to Ayers in a statement Saturday morning, and McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds told FOX News they would continue to point out Obama’s “associations that are questionable and point to his character and his judgment.”

“Before people pull that lever in November, they have a right to know, and we have a duty to tell them, who Barack Obama is — and to shine a light on some of those fairly liberal and sometimes downright troubling relationships that he’s had,” McCain adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer told FOX News Saturday.

In a positive sign for McCain, Palin, who was under fire from conservatives and liberals alike for a set of shaky interviews last week, seemed to quiet the criticism with her debate performance against Joe Biden on Thursday. The performance showed a return to the tough persona Palin exhibited during the Republican convention.

The Republican nominee himself signaled that the upcoming presidential debate Tuesday would be the kickoff of a taut battle to the finish.

Asked at a Colorado campaign stop earlier in the week by a voter when he would “Take the gloves off,” McCain responded: “How about Tuesday night?”

While Obama campaigned Saturday, McCain spent the day in Sedona, Ariz., preparing for the debate.

Democratic pollster Doug Schoen said McCain needs to keep the focus on Obama if he wants to turn the race around.

“John McCain has to change the dynamic in the race, because if he’s unable to make the case that Barack Obama’s not qualified or a risky choice, then I would bet that the current trend which has an Obama lead of 5, 6 points will continue,” he said. “On the other hand if McCain is able to raise questions about Obama’s supposed liberalism or his cultural radicalism or some of his ties … that could begin to shift the balance in the race.”

It’s unclear what other relationships McCain will stress. Hillary Clinton, during the primaries, tried to hammer Obama for his ties to convict Tony Rezko and needled him for the controversy surrounding his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. While the McCain campaign has used the Rezko connection in recent ads, neither relationship has driven the general election candidates’ discourse over the past several weeks.

“We’re looking at a very aggressive last 30 days of turning the page on this financial crisis and getting back to discussing Mr. Obama’s aggressively liberal record and how he will be too risky for Americans,” senior adviser Greg Strimple told reporters Thursday.

Polls would put the onus on McCain to shake up the race.

The Gallup national tracking poll on Saturday showed Obama with an 8-point lead — representing the eighth straight day he’s held a “statistically significant” lead in the poll. An average of state polls on RealClearPolitics.com shows Obama leading in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Florida and Michigan, among other battlegrounds.

The McCain camp gave Obama an opening after it announced it was pulling its staff and resources out of Michigan, which has 17 electoral votes.

But Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant said the campaign will be able to pull ahead in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania. The RNC pulled in a hefty $66 million in September to help supplement McCain’s advertising.

“Barack Obama’s built a huge campaign but I think we’ve built a smarter campaign,” he said.

But going too negative in the final weeks poses obvious risks for McCain. The candidate who long billed himself as the straight-talking, bridge-building, no-nonsense maverick could alienate voters drawn to his reputation in the Senate and the image he has attempted to build on the campaign trail.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton released a statement Saturday rejecting the reports on McCain’s new strategy as “dishonest, dishonorable character attacks.” He signaled Obama will still try to keep the economy front-and-center going forward.

“We understand that it’s not easy for John McCain to defend the worst economic record of our lifetime, but he will have to explain to the people struggling to pay their bills and stay in their homes why he would rather spend his time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy,” he said.

    ———————————————————————————————–

Sadly I believe that McCain making these negative comments a part of his actual campaign is a mistake. Though these things are true, most Americans have already heard them and do not care. Many have already decided they would vote for Obama for many reasons. A few of these are: because he is black, he is a good speaker, or even because they think he is attractive. I know some actually follow and know what he says, but the average person on the street doesn’t follow policies. They only see what is on television. This is Obama’s strongest point- with huge amount of funding he is able to blanket the media with ads. Many are vague and resort to chanting for change… Just depends where you are and what you are watching.

Thanks for making my point. The battle on the ground has improved dramatically, yet it does not hardly get mentioned on the news. Clearly if we are doing better in Iraq, then McCain finds more support. Of course at the moment the so called "Credit Crisis" is everything in the news.

That statement works in both ways, though the Crusades were misdirected in the best case. They did lead to positive changes for the western world.

This doesn't apply to what I was talking about. Iraqi's are not capitalist and do not believe in the freedoms that we have.
One of the most disturbing things to hear came from a local Iraqi in one of my PR classes there. She explained that it was perfectly ok for her father or husband to kill her if she committed adultery. She said this without pause or emotion. Another thing common in their society is the frequent molestation of children. Many men there do things to their sons and daughters which would make you sick.

To be honest, this country would probably not be able to use Democracy-- most likely choice would be another dictatorship or socialism. They believe in more controls over their people than a Democracy would allow.

As to religion, their religion is so closely related to ours it is hard to believe we are in conflict. I actually enjoyed talking with a few of my interpreters concerning this. Before going over there I had very little knowledge of their views, I came back with more respect for them. Also, it is quiet beautiful to wake in the morning with the sun rising and hearing the prayers sung over the air from the mosques. Sort of a surreal thing.

As to the current election that is coming up... I can only hope whoever wins will do their best for this country. Things here are changing, and I hope that they will improve. I've seen other parts of the world and I'd much rather have my home here in America.

I really do not have a great understanding of your country, so I did a quick read up on it. Very interesting indeed. I didn't realize that Estonia was that small. Your population there is about the same as Dallas, Tx.
Your countries HDI is very high and I really like how Estonia is making a push for using renewable resources. Now I see why your brother is doing the Green Investing blog.

Also the use of internet voting is very interesting.

I answered to the long post in the blog.

Yup, you were right about Arabian oil export part, so it must have been more of a political decision...

By the way, here's an article I found - http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/jan/26/iraq.oil

But you also have to take into account that US forces have been handing many areas over to the Iraqis which has resulted in less US but more Iraqi deaths.

Sure, but is this not a result of decades of brainwashing + a backwards society which is yet to release it from it's dogmas?

I hope so too, and not only the best for America, but for the world...I've seen both America and a big part of Europe and I'd much rather have my home here in Europe.

    From the first article:
"The Bush administration started out as social conservatives and ended up as conservative socialists"

Did I say I supported the new Bush policies? Not even close- this whole admin. has been getting worse and worse. Obama will only magnify the whole socialism problem. If he gets a chance to put his ideas to work, then we really will have the Great Depression part 2.

Bush has really screwed up a lot-- also, he is really only a social conservative- I don't believe he has really been a fiscal conservative.

It's too bad Mitt Romney isn't the one going to lead us out of this mess.

The government needs to stand down and quit making the problem worse- same thing with the media. Something that was honestly a small problem has become drastically worse from media exposure. Once everyone started to panic, then everything went downhill. Even strong companies with nothing to do with the "crisis" are going down in price. People are going to have to quit panicking if we wish to come out of this.

Are you just claiming that or is there something to back it up with?

If governments around the world wouldn't have stepped in, how many more companies would be bankrupt by now, how many people laid off?'

True, but only to some extent. There truly was a problem with the loans, you can't deny that. And the bubble would just have gotten bigger if it hadn't burst now.

Hey, even Europeans and Asians how have to do with the crisis are going suffering bc of that.

Even if the market recovers, how stable is it? Does anyone have the same confidence they did have? I don't trust it one bit.

The market almost never response to logic. Why should the DOW be where it's at? ...Panic is why. Should you be in the Market if you need to be liquid??

    Two words- Mandatory healthcare.

That's actually how the system works. If you make bad choices, then you fail. It would be bad for the workers, but they could find work with other companies. Not all companies got involved with the junk. The governments of the world have just made this a long term problem, it doesn't need a quick fix- the panic would of worn off by itself- the media just magnified it.

Actually the bubble bursting is fine. There is really only a small number of bad loans and foreclosures. It just goes back to the same point, you make a bad choice and you pay. The system is made to work that way. Not you make a mistake and the government takes other peoples money to fix it for you.

Europe and Asia are far from innocent in all of this. They also provided these loans to their people and invested in the bad companies. Though they probably had considerably less.

That is very true. You can't predict the market. If you can't take the heat stay out of the fire. Most investing is long term, hence the name. Anything else is gambling. Now if you buy a stock and it jumps up 50%, I'd sell it-- but, trying to do this all the time will usually make you come out losing.
