I've used TD Waterhouse for a long time. Scottrade seems to be getting the votes though.

(Not to take you down or anything, but)

Those broker comparissons that are provided by the broker are usually heavily biased to emphasize any advantage it has over others.

I've seen this a lot with brokers I wouldn't even consider opening accounts with, but they make it seem like their services are the best. I don't blame them (how else are they going to attract people) but it does make it more difficult to figure out what's best.

    No offense taken.

I hoped to find more comparisons, but this is all I found so far. I'm sure they modify them so it makes them come out the best, but if everone has one you could get a clear picture.

The mighty fool.com has an "unbias" comparison.

It's 4 brokers. Ummm...here you go...choose from these 4 brokers out of the 20 or more out there. Really, please use one of these so we get our commission...thanks.

    http://marketing.harrisdirect.com/harri ... rticle.pdf

This was a reprint of an article in Smart Money, so I guess it's relatively unbiased. However you should look at their ranking criteria and see if what they ranked is also what's important to you. The 8 brokers they evaluated in the final ranking order were:

    Harrisdirect www.harrisdirect.com
    Muriel Siebert www.siebertnet.com
    Firstrade www.firstrade.com
    Ameritrade www.ameritrade.com
    optionsXpress www.optionsxpress.com
    BrownCo www.brownco.com
    Scottrade www.scottrade.com
    WallStreet*E www.wallstreete.com

I just noticed that E*Trade is not on the list, wonder why they weren't on there... according to the article here's how they picked

E*Trade is buying Harris Direct. :? That make me mad... I left E*Trade because of some of their pricing policies, and now they're taking over my current broker. :?

I signed up with firsttrade.com. they are very slow at getting money from my bank account to my trading account. Its been almost a week and a half and my account is not funded. The rates are cheap and theres no minimum but boy are they slow.

Someone made a point about efficiency in execution at a different board about online brokers, I think that is very important, although I don't hold it against any online broker if they can't get an order filled in an OTCBB stock, even if the price falls below your limit buy :D Ameritrade is a good value for the 10.99 comission charge based on the market info you get with each trade or even quote, but I have noticed that their site appears to slow down during periods of fast market conditions, so that could obviously be a bad situation if the markets go into panic mode, idealy you would find an online broker who fills orders quickly for under 10.00, and has no problems when there is increased "client activity" :D I guess since all of the little worthless online brokers are combining forces that brings more clients into whatever system they decided to use, which might overload it, which means sumbody's goona be mad (but not me cause I don't use stops anyway :D ), that's why AMTD is really a sub 10.00 stock, but don't tell that to the guy who opened an AMTD account today and paid 20.00+, shhhhhhhh :D
